Who We Are
Jordan Red
Crescent
The Jordan Red Crescent (JRC) was established on
27 December 1947, recognised by the ICRC in 1948
and admitted to the International Red Cross and
Red Crescent Movement in 1950. It has its own
legislation No 3 for the year 1969 is an
independent organisation and its statutes were
approved by the General Assembly in 1970. It is
committed to follow its Mission Statement
“To alleviate the suffering of the victims and
the vulnerable of natural disasters and armed
conflicts and to protect their dignity and
rights in a manner that preserves their lives,
safety, security and well being.”
As a member of the International Movement the
mandate of the JRC is to meet and comply with
the established principles and aims of the
Movement which include adhering to and upholding
the seven Fundamental Principles on which the
Movement is founded: Humanity, Neutrality,
Independence, Unity, Voluntary Service,
Impartiality and Universality.
The Society focuses on Strategy 2010 of the
Movement - emergency preparedness, emergency
response, promotion of humanitarian values,
healthcare and social services. The National
Society enables the principles of the Movement
to be upheld through other projects aimed at
empowering Jordanian society through the
development of community-based projects.
